NEW YEARS EVE ON 31st DECEMBER 2018 By JEFF AWALA

New Year’s Eve is one of the largest global celebrations because it marks the last day of the year in the Gregorian calendar, December 31, before the New Year. Count down to the New Year no matter where you are in the world.

What Do People Do?

New Year’s Eve is a day of mixed feelings for many people. On one hand, it is a time to celebrate the end of the year gone by and welcome what is in store in the New Year. On the other hand, some people experience a sense of nostalgia as they reflect on the events that took place in their lives in the past 12 months. Many people start thinking about New Year’s resolutions at this time of the year. Some people celebrate New Year’s Eve by attending midnight church services, while others gather around in public venues such as Times Square in New York City, or Trafalgar Square in London to count down for the closing seconds of the old year. Many people hold parties to farewell the finishing year and to celebrate the New Year. The size of festive events for New Year’s Eve can vary in size and theme. Some people attend formal masquerade balls while others have costume parties. Some people have small parties or gatherings at their homes. Many New Year’s Eve celebrations are highlighted by firework displays. Many people start counting down to New Year’s Day in the last minute or seconds before the last night of the year ends and the New Year begins. Some people tune into watching televised countdowns. As the clock strikes midnight into New Year’s Day, many people celebrate this event by exchanging hugs, kisses, and wish each other a “Happy New Year”. In some parts of the world, including in the United States, many people sing the Scottish song “Auld Lang Syne” during the New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Public Life

New Year’s Eve is a public holiday in places such as Kenya, Uganda,Tanzania, Latvia, the Philippines, and San Marino. It is a holiday for banks in countries such as Bangladesh, Brunei, Paraguay, and Japan (New Year’s Eve is also a government holiday in Japan).New Year’s Eve is not a nationwide public holiday in countries such as Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, but some businesses close early, schools are usually closed, and many people may have half a day off work.  Those wishing to travel via public transport may need to check with the local transport authorities on public transport schedules for New Year’s Eve.

Background

New Year's Eve is the last day of the year and the day before New Year’s Day, which marks the start of a new year according to the Gregorian calendar. Pope Gregory XIII introduced the Gregorian calendar in 1582. It was adopted immediately in some areas of Europe but it was not used in various countries until even centuries later. For example, the United Kingdom and the United States started observing the Gregorian calendar in 1752, in which 11 days were dropped.New Year’s Eve festivities can be traced back to celebrations in Europe that date back before Christianity spread.  When many inhabitants in Europe were converted to Christianity, these festivals were merged with Christian beliefs and in time came to mark holidays such as the New Year’s Eve and New Year celebrations.

Symbols

New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day are symbolized in various ways across the world. Midnight between New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day is often marked by fireworks and fire crackers. Many people drink and toast with champagne or other sparkling wine.

Facts About Aslay By Jeff Awala

Teen Tanzanian singer Aslay – real name Isiaka Nasor - has risen through the ranks of music. Aslay who is now 23 years old was nominated for a Kora Award last year in the Best New Comer category but lost it to Nigerian act Davido.
The teen sensation, famed for his hit song, Nakusemea said that he takes his music seriously and stays away from meaningless romantic relations and drugs.Aslay who is the first-born in his family told Word Is he has invested his money wisely.“No one wants to live in squalor. I thank God I have managed to build two good houses one for my mother and other for rentaI and I also have a car.”
Aslay was discovered by top Tanzania promoter, Said Fela who “spotted me during my performance at a show in Zanzibar where many artistes had been signed to perform including Ali Kiba and Diamond”.Aslay said that the inspiration to write a song like Nakusemea, which has a very mature and adult theme, was because of his relationship with his mother.“When I was younger, my mother used to counsel and encourage me on many issues relating to music. Back then I was also in school so I usually told her everything including what I discussed with my fellow friends. That is how I chose the theme to the song about a man who is cheating on his wife and the son finds out. Now he has really hit.”

Facts and inspiring story of Mbosso By Jeff Awala

For those who might not know who Mbosso is. Mbosso used to be a part of the now separated Tanzanian all-boys music group called Wakubwa na Wanawe but later on changed it to Yamoto Band after their hit single Yamoto.
  • The group comprised of Aslay, Beka Flavour, Enock Bella and Mbosso(used to be called Maromboso back then though but changed it after Mkubwa Fela asked him to shorten it) fell out and that’s where each artiste from the group went solo. After the fall out, Aslay and Beka Flavour quickly found their footing and relaunch their careers as a solo artistes but Mbosso with Enock Bella was nowhere to be seen as if they fell off the surface of the earth. At that time, I honestly don’t know what happened to Enock Bella but he came back to the music limelight three months back but for Mbosso thanks to his brief bio-visual at least I know what happened to him. Mbosso who was born and raised in Kibiti to a mother who is a farmer and a father who is a tout in Kibiti had his share of  tough life growing up as a kid. Though his parents didn’t have much to offer him as a child, they at least tried to raise him to a responsible man up until he finished his high school education.
  • Mbosso wanted to do music and asked his parents to allow him to leave Kibiti and go to Dar Es Salaam and pursue his dream of being a musician just that so that he can be able to provide for his family which his parents were not convinced just yet.He eventually managed to convinced his parents to let him go to Dar es Salaam. When he was finally given permission to go to Dar es Salaam by his parents, his father gave him his shoes while his mother prayed for him so that he can achieve his dream of becoming a musician. When he finally reached Dar es Salaam, he didn’t know a single person in the vast city and couldn’t even communicate with anyone since he didn’t even any phone to communicate with. Thanks to Mkubwa Fela who is the owner of Mkubwa na Wanawe records, found him and scouted him to help build the boys band that came to be known as Yamoto Bando. After the group fell off because of irreconcilable differences, it really hit him hard and made him quit music and continue being a farmer. Due to scarcity of land his parents owned and the lack of food to cultivate had him indulge into bad vices like stealing.
  • Many different artistes wanted to persuade him to leave farming and get back into music but they didn’t make manage to convince him but thanks to Wasafi Classic Baby’s(WCB) Rayvanny he was swayed to come back to the city to attend Diamond Platnumz’s brother Romy Jones’ wedding.Mbosso was unsure if the group(Yamoto Band) will regroup and start off from where they stopped or if Wakubwa Fela will take him back but as fate would have it, he was signed under WCB and as it is a requirement in the WCB, every artiste is required to complete a record before he gets exposed and introduced to the world as a WCB artiste. It took him more than five months for him to be acknowledged by WCB. Because he needed to survive on his own and he didn’t have any income, he started doing petty crimes like stealing from people the little things they have. One his way to completing his debut album, he met up with a beautiful woman who loved him so much and wanted to take him to her parents and she was actually the muse to the song he just released ‘Watakubali’ which has been trending since it was officially released.Mbosso recently went to perform at a full crowd in Yanga who came solely to see him perform with his signature guitar, The show was successful which was attended by all of WCB artistes even Diamond Platnumz was in attendance.
  • Here’s the music video for ‘Watakubali’

Christmas Around the World By Jeff Awala

 Christmas Around the World

Find out how Christmas Traditions and how Christmas is celebrated in lots of different countries and cultures around the world!

 Christmas in Kenya

In Kenya, Christmas is a time when families try and be with one another. Many people travel from cities, back to the villages where the main part of their family might live. (Although there are more whole big families now living in cities so they don't have to travel!) This is often the only time large families will see each other all year, so it is very important.
People try to be home for Christmas Eve, so they can help with the Christmas preparations. Houses and churches are often decorated with colorful balloons, ribbons, paper decorations, flowers and green leaves. For a Christmas Tree, some people will have a Cyprus tree.
In cities and large towns, stores can have fake snow outside them! And there might be a Santa in the stores as well.  In cities and large towns, stores can have fake snow outside them! And there might be a Santa in the stores as well.In Kenya, Santa doesn't arrive with his Reindeer but might well come by Land-rover, Camel or even a bike! Many people, especially Christians, will go to a Midnight Church Service to celebrate Christmas. The service will have Christmas hymns, carols & songs; and often nativity plays (showing the Christmas Story), poems & dances. After the service, people go home and party really starts - you might well not sleep that night! In cities, going carol singing is also becoming more popular. Some people will also go to Church on Christmas morning (if you haven't fallen asleep from partying all night!)
Popular Christmas foods include a barbecue which can be a goat, sheep, beef or chicken. This is eaten with rice and chapati flat bread. The big Christmas meal is called 'nyama choma'. People often make their own beer to drink and different tribes also have special dishes they make. If you live in a city you might have a western Christmas Cake, but these aren't very common in rural areas.Only small gifts are normally exchanged and sometimes food and gifts are provided by missionary organisations. The day after Christmas, Boxing Day, is also a public holiday in Kenya. It's another day of celebrating, seeing more friends and family (or sleeping!)In Swahili/Kiswahili (a language spoken in Kenya) Happy/Merry Christmas is 'Heri ya Krismasi' and the response is 'Wewe pia' (you also). Happy/Merry Christmas in lots more languages.

Happy Boxing Day - the Day after Christmas! From Jeff Awala

Boxing Day - the Day after Christmas!

Boxing Day takes place on December 26th and is only celebrated in a few countries; mainly ones historically connected to the UK (such as Canada, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand) and in some European countries. In Germany it is known as "Zweite Feiertag” (which means 'second celebration') and also “Zweiter Weihnachtsfeiertag” which translates as Boxing Day (although it doesn’t literally mean that)!

Boxing Day Messages from Jeff Awala

  • May this day and others to follow bring light into your life and take away all the darkness. May you enjoy each moment of your life. Have a great boxing day. Enjoy the holiday.
  • Boxing Day is that day when people are relaxed without any worries. They get a chance to look back at the festive season and be happy. This is also a day between Christmas and New Year. So I hope you use this holiday to decide on your new year resolutions
  • Be happy, be joyous. These are my wishes for you on this happy occasion. Have a very good boxing day.

Ali Kiba Responds To Diamond’s Invitation To Work With Wasafi Festival By Jeff Awala

Ali Kiba has finally responded to Diamond Platnumz invitation for him to work with Wasafi at the Wasafi Festival, by agreeing to join in as a sponsor.
  • The duo has had a long-standing beef and are finally taking a step to end the rivalry.
Ali Kiba responded through an Instagram post, acknowledging that he has received the invitation but will be engaged in other personal businesses on the said dates.“Pia ndugu zangu #Wasafi tumepata salamu zenu, nashukuru kwa mualiko wenu, ila kwa bahati mbaya sitoweza kushiriki kwa sasa kutokana na majukumu ya kuzindua Mofaya katika nchi zingine,” he said.
He also notes that he cannot leave their invite hanging and will instead offer sponsorship through his energy drink business, Mofaya.
“Hata hivyo tusingependa kuwaacha hivi hivi, tupo tayari kuwapa support ya kudhamini tamasha lenu kupitia #MofayaEnergyDrink ili kuweza kusukuma mbele gurudumu la maendeleo ya sanaa yetu Tanzania na Africa,” he added.
This response comes a few days after Diamond decided that he wants to collaborate with Ali Kiba to promote Tanzania’s entertainment industry.

Diamond reaches out to Alikiba, invites him to Wasafi festival By Jeff Awala

Good times seem to lie ahead for the two biggest music rivals in Bongo Flava, if the latest statement by Wasafi record C.E.O Diamond Platnumz is anything to go by.
  • The father of three has sent out an invite to his nemesis Ali Kiba to perform at Wasafi festival later this month in Nairobi.
Speaking during the launch of Wasafi Festival, Diamond said that he would like to see his fellow musician Alikiba participate in this year’s festival which will go down in December.
“Na kwa kudhihirisha kwamba hili ni Tamasha la kwetu wote, mpaka kaka yangu Alikiba ningependa kumuona anashiriki katika Wasafi festival. Lengo si kuonyesha nani mkubwa bali ni kuuleta mziki wetu pamoja na kuifanya dunia kuona kwamba, kumbe na sisi Tanzania tunaeza shikamana na kufanya vitu vikubwa" said Diamond Platnumz.
  • For the longest time, the two seemed to have been in a constant competition with each other with Alikiba recently disclosing that he fell out with Diamond after he disrespected him.
In his speech, Diamond hinted out that Wasafi Festival 2018 will be held at Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi, on 31st of December and the artists who will perfom at the event are; Mbosso, Harmonize, Rayvanny, Queen Darleen and LavaLava among others.

Why diamond Platinumz only signs musicians from poor background By Jeff Awala

Helping the less fortunate in the society has always been my dream.

  • The WCB (Wasafi Classic Beiby) president Diamond Platinumz has revealed the qualities he looks at before welcoming a new member to his recording Label.

According to Platinumz his label signs only artist from a humble background as they are the people who can be able to fight in order to better their tomorrow.
He added that he can’t sign someone from a rich or able families because he already he all they needs and therefore it will be hard for such an artist to fight for a space in the competitive music market.“The first quality I look at, One must be from a poor backgraound because as youths we need to employ ourselves and therefore we as a label we need a hard working individual who will turn things around”. (Sifa ya kwanza WCB ni mtu aliyetoka katika hali ngumu, maisha magumu kwa sababu sisi tunajitahidi kujiajiri mwenyewe kwa wenyewe. Japo kuwa muziki wetu haujawa na riziki lakini angalau kidogo hichi  tule wote) said Platinumz during a radio interview at Clouds FM
Simba added that he believes people from the villages got real talents and when they get an opportunity they utilize it with all the energy they have.“People from the villages always have real talent and are very discipline and when they come to the city they want to go back when they are successful, hence the motivation. (Tunaamini watu kutoka mtaani wanakuwa na talent ya kweli, wanakuwa na njaa ya kujituma na nidhamu kwa sababu wanaogopa wasije wakarudi tena katika mtaa. Lakini mtoto wa kitajiri mimi sikudanganyi wanakuwa hawana nidhamu kwa sababu wanajua sisi tuna hela, kwa hiyo yeye haogopi au kufanya kazi kwa bidii,”) Said Diamond Platinumz.
For a very long time people have been asking questions regarding the qualities Platinumz looks at before signing an artist.
  • Currently WCB has six artist, Rayvanny, Harmonize, Queen Darlin, Mbosso, Lava Lava and Diamond Platinumz CEO.

Offset (Rapper) By Jeff Awala

Offset is Quavo's cousin, and Quavo is Takeoff's uncle. The three grew up together in Gwinnett County, a mostly suburban area near Atlanta. Migos initially gained recognition following the release of their 2013 single "Versace".

Personal life

In 2017, Offset started dating American rapper Cardi B. On October 27, 2017 he proposed to her at a live performance at Power 99's Powerhouse in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On April 7, 2018, Cardi B revealed on Saturday Night Live that the two were expecting a baby.
Offset is the father of four children: sons Jordan and Kody and daughter Kalea from early relationships and a daughter with Cardi B, named Kulture Kiari Cephus, born July 10, 2018.
Cardi B and Offset married privately in September 2017. On December 5, 2018 Cardi B

announced on Instagram that she and Offset had broken up.

Legal issues

When Migos first rose to prominence in 2013, Offset was incarcerated in Georgia's Dekalb County jail for violating his probation that he had received due to prior felony convictions for burglary and theft.
On April 18, 2015, authorities stopped a Migos concert at Georgia Southern University and arrested all three members of the group, as well as several members of their entourage. Offset was denied bond and was charged with possession of an unspecified Schedule II narcotic, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm in a school safety zone, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
On May 2, 2015, Offset, while in custody, received additional charges of battery and inciting a riot within a penal facility after attacking another inmate, causing severe injury. In a bond hearing before Bulloch County Superior Court Judge John R. Turner on May 8, 2015, Offset was formally denied bond based on his prior criminal record as well as the then-recent jail fight. During the hearing, two members of Migos' entourage were also denied bonds while four others were granted bonds and were barred from returning to Bulloch County as a condition of their release. Judge Turner directed the four who were released not to make contact with anyone involved in the case. Offset's attorney argued that the rap trio were unfairly profiled by law enforcement and that officers had failed to prove ownership of the firearms and illicit drugs found within the two vans. The prosecution responded that law enforcement were present at the concert for the safety of the students and public at-large due to Migos' history of violence. Upon hearing the decision, Offset shouted obscenities as he was escorted out of the courtroom.
After eight months in custody, Offset was released on December 4, 2015, after accepting an Alford plea deal. The deal dropped the gun, drug, and gang-related charges in exchange for pleading guilty to inciting a riot within a penal facility, paying a $1,000 fine, serving five years probation, and being banished from Bulloch, Effingham, Jenkins, and Screven Counties.
On March 17, 2016, Offset was arrested for driving with a suspended license but was released the next day without having charges filed.
Additionally, on April 5, 2018, Migos' tour bus was pulled over on a traffic violation in North Carolina. Officers searched their tour bus and found 420 grams of marijuana, 26 ounces of codeine and Xanax. The group members were not arrested, Offset was not in attendance, but members of their entourage were.
