Sauti Sol break up 2018 By Jeff Awala.

In a shocking turn of events, long time music group Sauti Sol have announced their imminent break up. Group leader Peter Marangi explained that artistic differences were the main reason for the break up.
  • The group came to the fore in 2004 when they curtain raised for popular musician Nameless at a concert in Nakuru.  They went on to be the opening act for Amani, Redsan and the late E-Sir.
In 2006 the group launched their first album which was a sensational hit, topping the East African charts and at one point had 4 singles in the top 10.Their second album launched in 2008 was not such a great hit and it is then that rifts started appearing within the group.  One faction believed that they needed to adapt to changing times to appeal to the youth while the other faction wanted to remain true to their origins and target the older generation who were familiar with their style.
In 2018, a public disagreement between the two factions during a concert in Nairobi saw the group ejected from the venue and was a public relations nightmare.

Sauti Sol new album - Afikan Sauce LP 2018.

  1. Sauti Sol ft. Nyashinski - Short and sweet This was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated collabo of the year. Nyashinski has had a good renaissance in the industry managing to create hit singles with each release. The collabo was quite predictable given that Sauti Sol had a hand in the making of the hit single ‘Mungu Pekee’ which became a household song. Sauti Sol recently released the visuals to the hit song on YouTube and has managed to gain over 500,000 views in just two days which is another record broken for a Kenyan song. The video has a dance tune to it with an African theme that was directed by Nate Thomas and mixed and mastered by Sarthak of the Wanene Entertainment. It is a true love ballad that is set to take over the radio stations by storm. It is ingenious how Nyashinski blended into the song and managed to stay on point throughout the second verse. The song is the fifth installation from the ‘Afrikan Sauce LP’ which is set to define the music in the Kenyan industry. The tone of the song is cool and collected. The song is set to be a club necessity and would surely be the collabo of the year.
  2.  Sauti Sol ft. Khaligraph Jones - Rewind It is one of the most hyped up song with featured one of Kenya’s hottest rapper currently making waves. It is a nice show how Sauti Sol collaborates with Kenyan musicians to give us an experience of a lifetime. The song has close to 1 million views and it is only a month old. The song is a recap of the struggles the band had to go through while coming up. Khaligraph Jones was a good pick given the tough background of the rapper and his childhood in Kayole. The ‘O.G’ came through in the third verse smoothly and marked the highlight of the song. The song was the fourth installation into the new upcoming album.
  3. Sauti Sol ft Burna Boy– Afrikan star Sauti Sol has managed to prove their impact in the African industry and this collabo was not short of impressive. Burna Boy came through the song nicely as the voices of both the artists blended well with each other. The rich and deep vocals of Burna Boy really made the song stand out. The song garnered over 2.2 million views on YouTube has its still making rounds in Africa. The song is an appreciation of the beauty of the African women. It it’s the whole concept of the album which is an appreciation of the African culture through music.
  4. Sauti Sol ft Tiwa Savage – Girl next door The song came as a surprise to many especially after the group hinted to another major collabo. Tiwa Savage is on top of her game especially with the signing to Tidal. There was no other perfect candidate that could have fitted or the groovy and bubblegum beat that will surely have you breaking a leg. The song was produced by renowned producer Maleek Berry. It has a catchy tune and you can feel the vibe with the lyrics. The song has over 2.5 million views on YouTube and is an instant club banger.
  5. Sauti Sol ft. Patoranking – Melanin It is unarguably one of the biggest and most successful songs in the upcoming album. The band recently celebrated the video which garnered over 10 million views on YouTube to become the first Kenyan video to reach the heights. Apart from the success, the song is a true reflection of the African beauty and why it is important to celebrate our blackness. The song is more of a pride showoff especially with the models in the visuals who are a representant of our skin. The video is exquisite and nothing short of pure genius. Patoranking did a splendid job with blending into the vocals.
